Let’s start in Genesis chapter 1, and verse 20. This is creation Day Five: “And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day” (ESV). On Day Five, we learn that God created both sea creatures and birds. Undoubtedly, there would have been more water on the earth than land, just as there is today. We learned last time that the original setup of the world had one large piece of dry land—one continent—and one large ocean, which was everywhere the content wasn’t, obviously. Remember, too, that the setup of the atmosphere was different. It didn’t rain on the earth, as every morning a mist would come up from the ground to water the living planets and trees, which were created on Day Four.
