       Whether or not your thoughts have led you to physically commit the act, the thoughts in and of themselves will hinder your marriage. All the time you spend not thinking about your wife and thinking about other women is leading you further and further away from your wife. You affections should be toward her. But in order to have affections for your wife, you have to think the right things about her. Remember what Jesus told us about trying to serve two masters? This teaching from our Lord is very applicable here. He said, ““No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other” (Matthew 6:24ex, ESV). You could not serve God wholeheartedly if your were part of another religion, right? In the same way, you cannot love your wife affectionately, wholeheartedly, while you are having affections for another woman in your mind. But it is true that a lot of men, hopefully not Christian men, carry on an affair, or affairs, while married. These actions should never be part of the Christian man's life. If we do get caught up in them, it's because we didn't guard our minds of inappropriate thoughts about other women. That's why it is so important for us to guard our minds. We all know that adultery messes up and even destroys a lot of marriages.
