Verse 8: “Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:8-11 ESV). You see, he met God’s legal requirement for a payment for sin. Even though he had never sinned in his life, he took the sin of all persons: past, present, and future upon himself. He died for our sins so that we would have an acceptable payment before God. He was able to do because, as Peter said, “knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot” (1 Peter 1:18-19, ESV).
